Over 50 detained in Van for protesting former minister

VAN (DİHA) - AKP General Head and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu held an election rally in eastern province of Van at the evening hours of Friday.

Some ministers also accompanied him during the visit. But, the rally became one of the least participated AKP rally.

When former Interior Minister and AKP Erzurum Deputy Candidate was announced and invisted to the stage, thousands of people around the rally square began to boo him.

Turkish police attacked with gas bombs, plastic bullets and water canon at the people. Five of the youths chanted slogan of "President Demirtaş," pointing to HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş. Police handcuffed in behind and detained them. 

DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Van Provincal Executive Şaban Duman and his cousin Mahmut Duman were also taken into custody by police.

At least 50 people were taken into custody by police during the protests.
